In 2020 a monumental restoration was completed on several historic buildings dating back to 1887 in the Canalejas region of Madrid, a location now home to Spain’s first Four Seasons hotel as well as a new luxury shopping complex.
Spanish lighting design studio, Anoche Iluminación were commissioned to create a uniform scheme across the building’s multi-level façade, whilst paying homage to each intricate characteristic.
Working with our regional partners Difusiona, miniature adjustable LD51 spotlights with anti-glare cowls have been expertly focused on the building’s elephant cornice, revealing extensive detail without spilling out into the wider design.
A majestic bell tower crowns the building and its ornate features have been lit using our high-power adjustable surface mounted spotlight, LD10238. With impressive far-reaching light distribution, the fittings could be mounted lower than their intended lit surface, helping to conceal them. The heads have been consciously adjusted to limit light pollution in the night sky.
To trace the curve and light the lower lengths of the tower, our high-power linear surface grazer LD38 was specified, using a clever combination of spacing and optics to achieve a uniform lit effect with no gaps between the short lengths.
In 2021, the new Centro Canalejas in Madrid won the international LIT Light Design Award in the ‘Exterior Architectural Illumination’ category.
