Sabang Boardwalk: Lighting a Coastal Community with Confidence
25th Mar 2026

Along the shoreline of Sabang, Cabugao in Ilocos Sur, a new boardwalk has transformed the way residents and visitors experience the coast. Known for energetic surfing scenes by day and a calmer, more contemplative character as evening arrives, Sabang needed a lighting scheme that could support both identities with clarity and restraint.

LIGHT PLAN INC led the vision; LightGraphix supported it with robust, marine grade solutions tailored to the site’s demanding environment.

Meeting a Fixed Deadline in a Challenging Environment

Two factors shaped the project from the outset:

• A non negotiable timeline leading up to the Christmas season

• The realities of a harsh coastal climate—salt air, humidity, and frequent storms

The most critical element was the wall mounted step lighting along the balustrades. The fittings required durable, corrosion resistant housings that could be surface mounted and supplied immediately to avoid installation delays.

A Technical Solution Grounded in Reliability

LightGraphix supplied a suite of luminaires built for coastal resilience, including the LD59, LD10235, LD10237, and LD10238. These products combine marine grade construction, precise optical control, and a clean contemporary aesthetic suitable for a public realm project.

Equally important was our commitment to availability and consistency. Delivering on the agreed schedule ensured LIGHT PLAN INC could maintain design intent without compromise, despite the challenging timeframe.

Transforming the Night Time Experience

Since opening, the boardwalk has become an integral part of local life. From late afternoon into the evening, the lighting defines the route with clarity, improving safety, encouraging longer stays, and strengthening Sabang’s identity as a welcoming waterfront destination.

While some residents have voiced concerns about long term durability in a typhoon prone region, the installation has already demonstrated its value as a carefully considered public asset.

263 of our LD175’s were used exclusively to illuminate the main walkway across the boardwalk providing a soft wide downwards beam, minimising light pollution whilst maintaining visibility and safety, ensuring the light is positioned exactly where it should be – an ethos we follow across all LightGraphix products.

A Collaborative Approach

“The Sabang Boardwalk lighting was designed to balance functionality, safety, and atmosphere. Working with LightGraphix allowed us to achieve a reliable, visually cohesive solution within a very tight timeframe, while meeting the demanding requirements of a marine environment.”

A Coastal Place Re Imagined

The Sabang Boardwalk project demonstrates the impact of thoughtful lighting, robust engineering, and disciplined collaboration. The result is a space that supports Sabang’s vibrancy by day while offering a calm, inviting atmosphere after dark.

For both locals and visitors, it has become a renewed point of connection with the coastline.
